Modular solutions that scale with you

From CAD to weld in minutes

At KRANENDONK, we turn challenges into smart solutions. In our blogs, we explore the world of intelligent automation, sharing insights, innovations, and stories that shape the future of production.

Welding inside confined spaces, on vertical structures, or deep within block assemblies has traditionally forced teams into manual work, slower, less consistent, and physically demanding. PORTABOT changes that dynamic. It is a compact, magnetically anchored welding robot that can be placed directly onto the steel surface, enabling automated welding exactly where conventional systems cannot be deployed.

Magnetically anchored for stable welding

Once PORTABOT is attached to flat or vertical steel using its powerful magnetic base, it delivers stable, accurate, and repeatable welds. It thrives in locations where accessibility is limited: between bulkheads, along panel sections, around collar plates, and inside complex ship modules. By bringing the robot to the workpiece instead of moving heavy structures or assembling temporary rigs, teams gain immediate flexibility and significantly reduce preparation time. Operators position the unit, engage the magnetic anchor, and begin welding without unnecessary delay.

Extended reach when the job requires it

For tasks that involve long seams or wider surfaces, PORTABOT can be mounted on an optional linear track. This enables smooth, controlled travel across extended distances while maintaining precise weld alignment. The system remains compact and easy to deploy, yet it adapts seamlessly to larger jobs, making it suitable for both localized welding tasks and broader production requirements.

Simple operation without robotics expertise

PORTABOT is designed for teams that need automation without added complexity. Its intuitive tablet or smartphone interface allows operators to select tasks, adjust parameters, and follow progress in real time. Setup is minimal, training requirements are low, and the system integrates naturally into existing workflows. Even operators with no prior robotics experience can begin using PORTABOT within minutes.

CAD-to-Weld automation powered by RinasWeld

The intelligence behind PORTABOT comes from RinasWeld, KRANENDONK’s advanced welding software. RinasWeld automatically converts 3D CAD data into optimized, collision-free weld paths, eliminating manual programming entirely. This streamlined process reduces human error, improves repeatability, and ensures that even complex projects are executed with consistent quality.

Multiple cobots working together on larger structures

When larger structures need to be processed faster, RinasWeld enables multiple PORTABOT units to work simultaneously on the same workpiece. The software automatically divides the work, coordinates cobot movements, and applies intelligent heat-management strategies to reduce deformation. Operators only need to place the cobots at the suggested positions; once they are set, production can start immediately, without any robot programming or manual parameter setup.

Officially launched and ready for deployment

PORTABOT was officially introduced during the Welding Automation & Innovation Days, where industry partners experienced firsthand how easily it integrates into real-world shipbuilding and modular fabrication workflows.
